You know what blows? Having a cluttered desktop that constantly makes you feel like you’re drowning in a sea, nay, an ocean of files, and also makes your coworkers judge you for your lack of organisation and just general file-system cleanliness. Now I know, macOS Mojave brings Desktop Stacks to solve exactly this problem, and while I personally use Desktop Stacks to act as my saviour on my MacBook Pro, it’s a whole different ball game when you’re sharing your screen, or giving a presentation, because one click on a big stack of screenshots, and there goes your desktop.

So, if you’re in the same, or even a similar boat as I am, and you’re looking for ways to hide desktop icons on a Mac, there are a bunch of ways you can do that, the easiest of them being — “there’s an app for that.”

HiddenMe is a free app that sits in your menu bar, and toggles desktop icons on and off with just a click.

What’s even better, is you can create a keyboard shortcut to quickly hide/show your desktop icons with HiddenMe, so you can quickly hide your desktop icons when you’re starting a presentation, and get back to your unorganised, kinda sorta clean with Desktop Stacks thanks to macOS Mojave desktop once the presentation has ended.

True, you can use a terminal command to get this done without having to download a third party app, but HiddenMe just makes it easier and quicker to get this done with just a click or a keyboard shortcut. Also, speaking of third party apps that make life easier, you should check out our article on essential Mac apps for some useful macOS apps you should check out.
